Week 18: Brittany Laramie
Entrepreneur

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Brittany Laramie, I am 27 years old, mother of two crazy boys and Co-Owner/Operator of The Iron King Ltd. I am a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, where I served as an Infantryman with the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. I’ve played sports my whole life, dabbling in almost everything from martial arts to soccer to triathlons. My true passion for sport was founded in competitive rifle shooting, and now as owner of The Iron King I’ve found a love in Powerlifting.

How has sport helped you develop skills for your work today?

Sport is my stress relief, my calm, my chaos, my happy place. Whenever I’ve felt down, sport has always pulled me through.

Playing any sport makes you adaptable, makes you think on your toes and forces you to make decisions on the fly, those skills are definitely relatable and transferable to real-life situations, and have helped me while serving in the CAF and now as a business owner.

How has sport helped you be a better leader?

Sports have certainly helped develop my leadership skills. Someone always has to step up; to organize; to plan. I like being that someone people can look to for answers, and sport certainly laid the foundation for those skills.
