WEEK #45: OLIVIA T.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Olivia. I am from Kitchener, Ontario, I’m 13 years old, and I play basketball and soccer. In the 2018-19 season our basketball team won gold in the provincial championship.

What is the best advice you’ve received as a leader or athlete? How do you apply this advice?

Some good advice that I have gotten was to lead by example. You don’t always have to be the loudest person in the gym. I lead by doing more than what’s expected of me, always giving it my all, and not waiting for an instruction to do something else.

What are a few qualities of a great teammate? How do you embody those qualities?

A great teammate is enthusiastic and makes their teammates feel good. Each practice I show up with tons of energy and enthusiasm in hope of spreading it throughout the team.

What advice do you have for parents, coaches or sport administrators to encourage or improve sport for females?

My advice to parents, coaches, and sports administrators is to bet on girls, give us opportunities, support our success, and watch us thrive.

What is a quote that motivates you?

A quote that inspires me is “Nothing is given, everything is earned.” – LeBron James

It motivates me to work harder and smarter than everyone else because I’m not the only one with big dreams and it’s not going to be served to me on a silver platter.
