WEEK #31: SYLAR T.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am eight years old and have two older brothers and a dog. My sports are hockey, kickboxing, and I swim competitively. I love animals, especially dogs-and I want to be a vet someday. I am proud to have won awards for leadership from my Hockey team such as the Diane Jones Award that is given to the player that shows the most heart. A big hockey highlight was being chosen to be in a Hockey commercial that was part of a nationwide campaign for Esso.

In my very first swim meet, I challenged myself to participate in the butterfly race and I was able to get five ribbons including second place! I also received the very first “Student of the Month” award in my kickboxing class-and I was the youngest in the class.

What is your favourite part about sport? Why?

My favourite part about sport is the training and meeting new people. Why? Because we become friends right away!

Who is your favourite female athlete? Why?

Natalie Spooner is my favourite hockey player because she played for Team Canada, and Sasha Banks and Bayley from WWE because they’re bad guys and really good actors.

What advice do you have for parents, coaches or sport administrators to encourage or improve sport for females?

My advice for parents and coaches is to always teach athletes new things, and always challenge them.

What is a song that motivates you?

My favourite song that motivates me is “Boomerang” by JoJo Siwa because it is about anti-bullying and it makes me feel happy.
